I’m April Redmond, and I am excited to be a part of the Westminster College Health Center since October 20, 2016. I am here as a half-time counselor during the academic year from August 14-May 12, and am the co-chair of the meditation club. I am an alumna of Westminster, having graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s in psychology (clinical track), and completed my Master's in Professional Counseling from Carlow University in 2011. I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and trauma-focused interventions with participation in CISM (Crisis Intervention Stress Management). Additionally, I utilize holistic techniques including mindfulness, encourage yoga and a proactive approach to mind-body wellness. I am licensed in the state of Pennsylvania (LPC), am a national certified counselor (NCC), and belong to the American Counseling Association, American College Counseling Association, and American School Counselors Association. I am currently working on completing my nutrition coach certification to provide better service against preventable diseases that impact the mind and body, as well as advanced certification training in master gardening with Penn State University.
Outside of the office, you will most likely find me outdoors: hiking, kayaking, gardening or volunteering as a certified Master Gardener throughout Butler County, and the state of Pennsylvania. I also enjoy (live) music, cooking, crafting/painting, and aspire to learn how to knit and screen print. My favorite thing is to design practical yet aesthetically pleasing kitchen gardens or potagers. I have also been interested in designing medicine gardens, and have been working on certifying our gardens for Wildlife Habitat, Pollinator Friendly, and Monarch Habitats as we've had many monarch caterpillars grow and take flight this year. Finally, I’m a kitty mom to Reese who also enjoys gardening and taking hikes with us.
Thank you for taking some time to get to know me. Please do not hesitate to ask me anything. I am warm, open and honest in my approaches, and will work collaboratively with you towards your goals and exploring different options, and take a well rounded approach to meeting people where they're at. I look forward to meeting you!
